PODIA ROADVENTURES #1 – TATRA MOUNTAINS
“Are we nearly there yet?” It’s obvious that Ben can’t wait to leave the bus and get onto his bike again. One glance to the GPS and my patience is gone as well. Only 10km to go, we’re almost there!
For the most part of the 690km on the German and Polish Autobahn, the road wasn’t particularly exciting, but as we get closer to our destination the landscape becomes more beautiful and definitely more hilly with each kilometre. The road is windig softly along the hills, through forests and little towns.
Two weeks ago, Max, the founder and heart of PODIA, asked me to participate in the first ever „Podia Roadventure“. I didn’t have to think twice! 4 days, 424km, small groups, riding guides with in-depth local knowledge about routes and nice hidden spots, traditional culinary highlights: it all sounded pretty damn amazing! And the best part for my taste: MOUNTAINS!
A change of scenery more than welcome for two Berlin cowboys, who are usually doomed to never ending flatness. The tiniest hill gives us chills and compared to that, the Tatra massif sounds like the real deal.
5km to go.
One last summit, then we have to leave the main street and get onto a smaller cobbled road with a cluster of small traditional polish timber houses to both sides. Just next to the village lies a quiet beautiful lake and at its tip we find the place, where our base camp for the next 4 days will be. It couldn’t be more perfect. Time to leave the car and start this adventure!
We quickly join the small group of people, who seem to be our fellow riders as they are putting their bikes together in front of one of the houses. A couple minutes, a very warm welcome and a quick nerd talk later, there is no doubt:
The next four days are going to be epic!
